Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente according to package instructions.

Halfway through pasta cooking, warm olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add thinly sliced garlic and crushed red pepper flakes; sauté until garlic turns light golden brown, stirring frequently to prevent burning. If garlic finishes before pasta, remove from heat.

Drain pasta, reserving 1/4 cup of cooking water. Transfer hot pasta to the saucepan with garlic oil. Add reserved pasta water and sauté briefly over medium heat until water evaporates, stirring to coat evenly.

Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and additional crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Garnish with chopped parsley and shaved Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
