Swirled Garlic Herb Cheese (Printer-Friendly)

Fluffy dough twisted with garlic herb butter, mozzarella, and cheddar for a warm, flavorful bread.

# What You'll Need:

→ Dough

01 - 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
03 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
04 - 1 teaspoon salt
05 - 1 cup warm whole milk (about 110°F)
06 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
07 - 1 large egg

→ Garlic Herb Butter Filling

08 - 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
09 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
11 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
12 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

→ Cheese

13 - 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
14 - 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar or Parmesan cheese

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
02 - In a small bowl, blend softened butter with minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt until smooth and fragrant.
03 - On a floured surface, roll the risen dough into a large rectangle roughly the size of a baking tray. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the dough, covering edge to edge. Evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar or Parmesan over the butter layer.
04 - Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log lengthwise into two long strips. Twist the two pieces together, exposing the layers of cheese and herbs. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan or shape freely on a baking sheet.
05 - Cover the shaped loaf and let it rest for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the loaf for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
06 - Allow the bread to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm to enjoy the buttery garlic and melted cheese layers.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - For best texture, avoid rushing the rise times. Use room temperature butter for easy spreading and twist tightly to maintain shape.
