Flavorful meatloaf wrapped in puff pastry with olive eyes and marinara accompaniment. Festive and comforting.

# What You'll Need:

→ Meat mixture

01 - 1 lb ground beef (or a blend of ground beef and pork for enhanced flavor)
02 - 1/2 cup plain or Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
03 - 1/2 cup milk
04 - 1 large egg
05 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
06 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
07 - 1/4 cup ketchup
08 - 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
09 - 1 tsp dried parsley (optional)
10 - 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
11 - Salt and black pepper to taste

→ Pastry and garnish

12 - 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
13 - 2 black olives, halved (for eyes)

→ Accompaniment

14 - 1 cup marinara sauce

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Set oven temperature to 350°F. Lightly grease or line a baking dish with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
02 - In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Gently combine to keep texture tender.
03 - Shape mixture into a loaf and place in prepared dish. Optionally, spread additional ketchup on top. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
04 - Remove meatloaf from oven and let cool for 10 minutes to prevent puff pastry from melting upon contact.
05 - Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface, cut into 1/2-inch strips, and wrap loosely around meatloaf in crisscross layers, leaving gaps for eyes.
06 - Return to oven and bake 15–20 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
07 - Press black olive halves into pastry gaps to create eyes. Warm marinara sauce to serve alongside or drizzle for a dramatic effect. Slice thickly and serve hot.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - For a gooey center, incorporate shredded mozzarella or cheddar into the meat mixture.
02 - Ground turkey or chicken can substitute beef for a lighter option.
03 - Pimento-stuffed green olives make spooky, bloodshot eyes.
04 - Prepare meatloaf a day ahead; wrap and bake with pastry just before serving.
05 - Add hot sauce or chili flakes to ketchup for a spicy blood effect.
