Hamburger Steaks with Gravy (Printer-Friendly)

Seasoned ground beef patties with peppers and onions, simmered in thick brown gravy for a hearty meal.

# What You'll Need:

→ Hamburger Patties

01 - 1 pound ground beef
02 - ⅓ cup crushed crackers or bread crumbs
03 - 1 large egg
04 - ½ green bell pepper, finely diced
05 - ½ small yellow onion, finely diced
06 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
07 - 1 teaspoon salt
08 - ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

→ Gravy

09 - 1 packet brown gravy mix
10 - 10.5-ounce can French onion soup (low sodium)
11 - 10.75-ounce can cream of chicken soup (low sodium)
12 - ¼ cup water

# Steps to Follow:

01 - In a bowl, thoroughly mix ground beef, crushed crackers, egg, diced green pepper, diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper by hand until well combined.
02 - Shape the mixture into four oval-shaped hamburger steaks.
03 - Heat a cast iron skillet or nonstick sauté pan over medium-high heat. Place the patties into the hot pan, ensuring they sizzle. Brown each side for 3 to 4 minutes without cooking through to develop flavor.
04 - Remove patties from the pan and set aside. Add brown gravy mix, French onion soup, cream of chicken soup, and water to the pan. Whisk continuously for 1 to 2 minutes until most lumps are dissolved.
05 - Return browned patties to the pan and spoon some gravy over them. Cover pan and reduce heat to low. Let simmer for about 10 minutes until patties are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
06 - Remove from heat and serve immediately.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - For a beef broth alternative, substitute French onion soup with low sodium beef broth.
