Crock Pot Whole BBQ Chicken (Printer-Friendly)

Juicy whole chicken slow cooked with smoky BBQ rub and sauce for rich tender flavor.

# What You'll Need:

→ Poultry

01 - 4-pound whole roaster chicken, giblets removed

→ Seasonings

02 - 1 to 2 packets BBQ chicken dry rub (or homemade blend), to taste

→ Produce

03 - 1 small onion, sliced

→ Condiments

04 - 1 bottle BBQ sauce of choice

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Remove the chicken from its packaging and discard any giblets found inside the cavity. Pat the chicken dry thoroughly using paper towels, both inside and out.
02 - Sprinkle the BBQ chicken dry rub evenly over the entire surface of the chicken, including inside the cavity. Massage the rub into the meat to ensure full coverage.
03 - Place the sliced onion at the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker, creating a bed to hold the chicken.
04 - Place the seasoned chicken breast-side down atop the onions in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on the low setting for approximately 8 hours.
05 - Once cooking is complete, brush half of the BBQ sauce bottle evenly over the surface of the chicken. Replace the lid and continue cooking on low for 15 minutes to set the sauce.
06 - Carefully remove the chicken, taking care as the meat will be very tender. Serve with remaining BBQ sauce on the side.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) measured at the thickest part without touching bone for safe consumption.
02 - Patting the chicken dry helps the seasoning adhere better and promotes even cooking.
